Marc Faber recently appeared on Indian television to discuss his expectations for the equities markets in 2012.

The US market was essentially flat last year, and it significantly outperformed most other markets around the world. In 2012, we may have some initial weakness in the emerging markets, and then they will probably bottom out and outperform the United States market for the rest of the year.

In 2008, most markets were hit very hard, but they bottomed out by 2009. Emerging markets then outperformed the United States until late 2010. You might expect to see a similar pattern in markets such as India over the next 6 to 9 months.

We don’t have a free market today. Instead we have much government intervention, particularly when it comes to the price of money. The United States Federal Reserve will most likely continue their policy of quantitative easing.

Sentiments in silver and gold have been very negative recently. There may be a trading rally in the near future that may surpass the peak achieved in 2011.
